When the city of Scranton was given distressed status
by the state of Pennsylvania, the state ordered the city to hire a consultant to assist in all planning and administration
of government to get it back into a financially healthy status. Some of Governor Rendell's good friends just happened
to be in the consulting business at the time. The consulting firm was called the Pennsylvania Economy League, or PEL.
PEL got involved in city affairs while Jim Connors was
the mayor. Under the guidance of this consulting firm, Jim Connors put forth a recovery plan. He was asked to eliminate
certain city jobs, cut back certain services (like police officers) and tighten the city's belt. Chris Doherty was on
council at the time. You may recall that during the Connors' administration, the PEL was always in the paper, and always slamming
Jim Connors over his past and present management of city affairs. At about the same time, Chris Doherty announced
that he was going to oppose Jim Connors for mayor, and did so. All during the time that the two men were campaigning, the
PEL was repeatedly pounding away at Jim Connors and, the Scranton Times was reporting each and every incident to the people.
The PEL consultants were nothing more or less than hitmen against
the city and Jimmy Connors. Were they here to help? Or, were they here to help carve the political career of Chris
Doherty? Isn't it strange that the PEL assassinated Jim Connors for his administrative practices and spending, and the
only thing he did was ignore the PEL's recommendations regarding the union contracts. If Jim allow the PEL to have their
way, we would have had to close down half the fire houses and sell off half the police cars, because there wouldn't have been
any cops to drive them. Every chance the PEL had to slam Jim, they did it, no matter how minor the issue.
Then, Chris Doherty became mayor. He loaded, and I mean, loaded City
Hall with the sons and daughters of friends who gave huge contributions to his campaign. These people were given
the best jobs at City Hall and with incredible salary raises. Take, for example, Lisa Moran, the Human Resources
Director; her position went from $31,000.00 a year to $50,000.00 a year. Doherty introduced her as a well-educated
and experienced administrator. What a lie. She had just been fired from Boscov's. And, her education? How
about a degree in fashion??! Everything she touched she screwed up, everything. Doherty had to hire a consultant to
do her job for her, at another $50,000.00 a year. All tallied, the payroll at City Hall was increased
a whopping 3.4 million bucks. And, guess what? Not even a peep from the PEL. So, what does that
tell you?
Another thing; the recovery plan eliminated the position
of Public Safety Director. But, Doherty hired his buddy, Ray Hayes, as the Director at a salary of $65,000.00 a year
with a $30,000.00 secretary. Not a peep from the PEL.
It was all planned out and schemed. Crush Jimmy Connors
and cover your eyes when Doherty cleans out the cookie jar. That's what they were told to do, and they did it. And,
we paid for that service! When is the last time you heard anything from the PEL? They sat back and said nothing while
the golf course was being illegally sold.
THIS IS WHY MAYOR DOHERTY HAS TO BE DEFEATED. WE'VE BEEN HAD BY HIM AND HIS GROUP OF RICH AND POWERFUL FRIENDS SINCE DAY
ONE.
NOW, WE HAVE THE POWER.
HE'S CRAWLING FROM ONE NEIGHBORHOOD TO THE NEXT LOOKING
FOR OUR VOTES. BUT, GUESS WHAT?
IT'S HARD NOT TO FORGET THAT HE TURNED HIS BACK ON ALL OF
US FOR ALMOST FOUR YEARS. NOW, WE'RE ALL IMPORTANT FOR TWO MONTHS RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION???? WE'RE ALL SICK OF THAT
LYING AND MANIPULATION.
VOTE AGAINST THIS RICH, ARROGANT BUNCH OF THIEVES, TO INCLUDE
THE OWNERS OF THE SCRANTON TIMES. THEY'VE BEEN LYING TO US ABOUT HIM THE WHOLE TIME BECAUSE THEY HAVE A FORTUNE INVESTED IN
HIS FUTURE.
SQUASH IT. LIKE THEY SQUASHED US.
DOHERTY HAS US $275,000,000.00 IN DEBT, HE'LL DOUBLE THAT
IF WE LET HIM BACK IN. GUARANTEED.
